One of our favorite signs of spring at the Greenwich Audubon Center is the amazing aerial mating display of the American Woodcock! These woodland relatives of our sandpipers and shorebirds are truly spectacular acrobats of the sky who put on a mesmerizing performance against the twilight sky. These birds also nest on the ground and are incredible masters of camouflage, blending in with leaves and plants on the ground.
Join us for this special virtual presentation to learn about the natural history and habits of these beautiful birds. After the presentation portion, we will bring you on a virtual journey to our hawk watch lawn to look and listen for these birds performing their display flights, along with other nighttime sounds of spring.
